Well, we have finished our book! This is definitely one of my favorites and I think that it has become some of yours as well. For our last post, tell me what you thought of the book. Tell me what was good, what was bad, and how it has changed your love for reading. Thank you for being a wonderful class to visit!!

We learned some pretty cool information in this chapter. What do you think is the most important thing we learned and why?

Chapter 14: The Race to VMI

After all that you know about Benjy, how much of a sense of accomplishment do you think he felt when he woke up with the watch in his hands? Use examples to explain your answer. See if you can use a more exciting word than just "good".

Benjy was very distracted in this chapter but was able to keep his adventure a secret. If you were in his shoes would you be able to keep something this big a secret? Do you think you would have been just as distracted as Benjy was?

At the very end of the chapter, Benjy realizes that Miss Leota is proud of him. What does she say that makes him realize this? Do you think she has always been proud? Why or why not?

We learned a lot of background information about both the children, Benjy's father, Miss Leota, and their ancestors. What do you think was the most suprising piece of information and how do you think it changes the relationship? If you can, use information from the text to help you answer.

Benjy is becoming quite a good friend to Hugh, as you can see from this chapter. Do you think that he will be able to go back to his hometown and use these skills to make more friends now that he has more confidence, or do you think he will revert back to his old ways of being shy and unsure of himself?

In this chapter, Benjy thinks alot about family heirlooms. Do you have anything in your family that is considered a family heirloom (something that has been passed down from generation to generation) or something that is just really special to your family? What lengths would you go to in order to find it if it was lost?
